Picture Sunday: Old and New

This weekend has been simply lovely. Me and my fiance celebrated our 6 year anniversary with all kinds of activities, including dining at a Moroccan restaurant, painting, going to the movies and a brunch this morning.

Although, I don't know whether what we did counts as painting. We just thought that we needed some colors in our living room, bought some paint and voila. It's not finished though, if it turns out ok I'll show you when it is :-)

Oh, and did I tell you we have a houseguest? Say hi to Mási the goldfish, his dad is on vacation so he will be spending a little time with us. I never considered myself to be a fish person, but I still like having him around.

After 6 years my fiancé knows me pretty well. This may apply to many other women, but I don't think you can go wrong with a gift wrapped Chanel of any form. Lovely color from the loveliest person.

Three things

Three things on my agenda for the rest of the week:

Number 1: Listen to this song, most likely many many many times. Hello repeat!

Number 2: Visit Panduro Hobby (the heaven of DIYs). Among other things to pick up some threads for friendship bracelets and chains for a necklace.

Number 3: Attend the first figure skating practice of the season. Some bruises are expected.

Hope you are having a wonderful week - would love to hear how you are spending yours :-)

DIY: Roses are red

The last item I made when us cousins had a DIY girls night (see here) was a rose ring. Not surprisingly, this one was a bit of a challenge. If I remember it correctly, this was my fourth or even fifth try. The materials I used for it was a chunk of clay and a metal ring. There are many many DIY guides on youtube on how to do it (here is one e.g.). What I do want to add though, is that it is easier to work with the clay when it's cold. Also, we used superglue to glue the rose to the ring.

I definitely recommend it - after all, you can never have too many accessories :-)

DIY: Fringe earrings

As previously said, I made fringe earrings to match the necklace (although on second thought, I highly doubt I will wear them together). It may be a bit too much. Again, it is so easy to make them. I used around 4 cm of fringe on each, and then a rest of the chain I had to add a bit of an edge. I sewed the chain to one end of the fringe and then rolled it up (like when making a cinnamon bun) and sewed through a few stitches each time I reached a whole circle (to keep it all together). Finally the hook was sewed on.

DIY: Fringe necklace

Last week my cousins and I sat down together with the purpose of creating something cute. We weren't optimistic though. We bought fringes (20 cm), chain, clay, feathers, earring hooks and rings. Here is my first piece. And I've already worn it twice. It's so much fun to be able to say you made something you are wearing :-) We didn't use any DIY guide but I'm sure there are many many out there. And there is more to follow, because I made earrings to match, some flower rings out of clay and my cousin made the cutest pair of duckling earrings.

Homemade bodyscrub

This week I found myself needing a new body scrub. What I was looking for was essentially spring in a bottle (who isn't?). I decided just to make one, using a simple recipe that I read somewhere online. The ingredients are 100 gr raw sugar, rasped peel from 2 lemons and 2 oranges and half a vanilla bean. All ingredients are poured in a jar or bottle and stored in the refrigerator over night. The scrub is then ready to use the day after. It smells wonderful, and using only natural and organic ingredients makes you feel that much better about using it.
